The Materials Analysis Laboratory of Fairchild's Advanced Research and Development Laboratory has recently been
moved into new quarters. The new facility has been designed
by Mr. Larry Dorshkind and his associate. Mr. Dorshkind's
activities during the three phases of the project (definition, layout, and construction) were centered around the definition
and layout phases. The product of Mr. Dorshkind's efforts
was a design layout for a new R & D Materials Analysis
Laboratory which consists of individual rooms for three scanning electron
microscopes, one transmission electron microscope,
Auger electron spectroscopy, a darkroom, metallagraphic lab,
optical lab, x-ray lab and a room for auxiliary equipment like power supplies, wafer recirculators,
roughing pumps, etc. |

Mr. Larry Dorshkind and his associates have recently completed design work for one
of Pacific Bell's work centers, the Loop Assignment Center (LAC). |

Mr. Larry Dorshkind designed and prepared drawings for a new Repair and Assignment Bureau for the Northern Sector of the Pacific Bell. |

The expansion of our professional staff required us to remodel our laboratory area to
better utilize the space available. We
contracted with Mr. Larry Dorshkind to design the laboratory area. |

I would like to acknowledge the significant contributions Larry Dorshkind has
made to SRI International's operations and particularly to the SRI Facilities Department.
For three years now,
Larry has provided architectural services with a strong emphasis on excellence.
His insistence on
high quality work has rubbed off on the rest of us and has certainly increased
the degree of
professionalism of this office. |

Mr. Larry Dorshkind, of Larry Ian Dorshkind, Inc., Redwood City,
California, has developed plans for the remodeling of the
Microbial Diseases Laboratory at the State Department of Health, |

Mr. Larry Dorshkind has been under contract with the State of California to
design and prepare working drawings for the remodeling of medical/research
laboratories of the California Department of Health. |

Larry Dorshkind has recently completed the design of an electron microscope
facility in the Division of Natural Sciences at the University of California,
Santa Cruz. Unlike most such facilities which are confined to one discipline
or one function, this facility will be used for all the ultrastructural
research and teaching in biology, earth sciences, chemistry, and physics. It
will consist of 4 electron microscope rooms, a darkroom, a sample and micrograph preparation and teaching lab, ultramicrotomy room, a room for microanalytical equipment, an office, and a utility corridor for
ancillary microscope, vacuum,
air-conditioning, and other equipment. We envision that up
to 30 people wi11 be working on different phases of a variety of projects or courses at any one time. |
Mr. Larry Dorshkind recently completed an assignment for us which
involved the consolidation and integration of two manufacturing,
administrative, marketing and research facilities several miles
apart. It further involved the personnel of two separate
companies and their equipment and material. In view of the fact
that one company had recently been acquired and certain legal
limitations restricted the unimpeded and normal flow of
information between the two entities, this move and its
concurrent planning was a very real challenge to overcome. |
